National Student Research Group 2018-2019 Officer Election Process
Candidates for NSRG office must complete the candidacy form. The deadline for submission of candidacy is 5 p.m. EST on Friday, February 10, 2017. Online voting for the NSRG Officer slate will take place February 15 – March 8, 2016. Elected individuals will be announced during the AADR NSRG Business Meeting, taking place Thursday, March 23, 2017, during the IADR/AADR/CADR General Session in San Francisco, California, and will begin their terms as officers-elect at the conclusion of the 2017 IADR/AADR/CADR General Session. Elected candidates will take office at the conclusion of the 2018 AADR/CADR Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (March 21-24) and will serve through the 2019 IADR/AADR/CADR General Session & Exhibition in Vancouver, Canada (June 19-22).

To ensure a diverse representation on the NSRG, only one candidate is eligible to run from each school. The NSRG Nominating Committee will review all nominees at the conclusion of the candidacy period. If there are multiple nominees from a school, the local SRG faculty advisor will be asked to select one candidate for the entire ballot.
Any active student member of IADR/AADR must have renewed their membership or joined prior to February 10, 2017, to be eligible to run and/or vote in this year’s election. Student members must be enrolled or affiliated with a U.S.-based dental school or institution in order to run for office.
All information submitted on the candidacy form should be carefully PROOFREAD. The information you submit will not be re-typed and will be provided for voters exactly as you submit it.
Duties:
Anyone interested in serving as an AADR National Student Research Group Officer must be available to attend the following meetings, first as an Officer-elect and then as an Officer:
- May 2017 AADR Board of Directors Meeting (President and President-elect only)
- August 2017 NSRG Board Meeting (held in Alexandria, Virginia)
- December 2017 AADR Board of Directors Meeting (President and President-elect only)
- January 2018 NSRG Board Meeting (held in Alexandria, Virginia)
- March 2018 AADR/CADR Annual Meeting & Exhibition (Fort Lauderdale, Florida)
- May 2018 AADR Board of Directors Meeting (President and President-elect only)
- August 2018 NSRG Board Meeting (held in Alexandria, Virginia)
- December 2018 AADR Board of Directors Meeting (President and President-elect only)
- January 2019 NSRG Board Meeting (held in Alexandria, Virginia)
- March 2019 IADR/AADR/CADR General Session & Exhibition (Vancouver, Canada)
Expenses for the NSRG Board Meetings and for the AADR Board of Directors Meetings are covered by AADR. Students are responsible for their own travel, lodging, and registration for the IADR General Sessions and AADR Annual Meetings.
The following are the specific duties of each office:
President: provides effective leadership in achieving the NSRG’s purposes; presides over the annual business meeting; serves as the NSRG’s official representative to other organizations; serves as a voting member of the AADR Board of Directors and attends Board meetings (one in December and one in April/May); attends every officer meeting.
Vice-president: serves in place of the President at the request or absence of the President; assists the President in providing effective leadership for the SRG organization; performs any duties requested by the President; attends every officer meeting.
Councilor: represents the NSRG at the annual AADR Council meeting (held during the AADR Annual Meeting); determines issues, with other NSRG officers, to present to the AADR Council; reports to the NSRG on the actions of the AADR Council; responsible for organizing DENTSPLY/Caulk Competition; attends every officer meeting.
Secretary: keeps accurate and up-to-date notes of all proceedings at the annual business meeting; provides clerical assistance to the President; attends every officer meeting.
Eligibility:
An Officer-elect must have no less than two years remaining in their respective training program and as an eligible student member of AADR (as defined in the AADR Constitution) in order to be considered for election—one year to serve as officer-elect and a second year to serve as officer. Additionally, to ensure a diverse representation on the NSRG, only one candidate is eligible to run from each school.
The NSRG Nominating Committee will review all nominees at the conclusion of the candidacy period.
